About EFT

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)

TappingEFT is a simple and easy-to-learn set of meridian tapping techniques for freeing yourself from “stuck” emotional and physical issues. It is often effective on the most difficult issues such as phobias, cravings and chronic pain and is an excellent tool for managing stress, anxiety, pain, anger, and many other emotional and physical issues.

To put it simply, EFT involves stimulating various pressure points on the body (based on acupuncture meridians) while focusing on the target problem with verbal affirmations and statements. You can do EFT on yourself (which I highly recommend!), but it is often very helpful to work with a skilled practitioner.

What is EFT?
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a set of tools for eliminating emotional and physical blocks. EFT is an excellent tool for managing stress and anxiety and clearing stuck emotional and physical issues. It works especially well on phobias, anxiety, intrusive memories, cravings, chronic pain, and performance issues. EFT is often referred to simply as “tapping”.

How does EFT work?
EFT involves tapping on certain pressure points on the body (based on acupuncture meridians) while focusing on the target problem with verbal statements. The theory of EFT is based on the premises that: (1) all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body’s energy system and (2) unresolved negative emotions can be a major factor in physical pain and disease. It is believed that stimulating the various meridians in the body while focusing on the problem helps our body-mind to release “stuck” emotions. EFT has a very high success rate when properly applied but we do not fully understand how and why it works. A few research studies have been done and hopefully many more in the future.

Can I do EFT on myself?
Yes, it was designed to be accessible to everyone as a self-help tool. Many people do get great results working on their own, but some find that working with another person can increase its effectiveness.

Is the tapping taking away feelings that I should have?
Emotions are meant to be felt and then move through us. We get stuck in emotional reactions when we don’t allow ourselves to feel them, when we don’t accept them, or when the feelings are overwhelming and we can’t fully process them in the moment. Tapping does not take away your feelings or your memories. Tapping helps you accept and move through your feelings so that excessive reactions can finally be released.

Why does EFT focus on the negative? It seems we should keep focused on the positive instead.

I certainly agree that we should keep ourselves focused on the positive as much as possible. The problem is that these negative emotions are already there inside you and they’re stuck. They will stay stuck until you acknowledge, accept and process them. We have to give them some attention in order to be able to release them. And until they’re released they will continue to interfere with your ability to fully experience the positive.
